So happy with multiple experiences at Title Tattoo. 😍 My first experience was with Brandon for a custom design. He was VERY patient with me as I had a few adjustments I wanted to work through but could not be happier with how my life map came out. 🙏🏼 I started following the instagram page and found another amazing artist, Dom. I took her up on one of her flash designs for my next tattoo. 🧚🏼 Then, more recently, I really hit it big adding four more smaller designs during the spring flash event with Alex. 💃🏼✨ Everyone is amazing, open, kind and the shop is super clean. 📸 Click on the photos to see who did what and where.
I've had the pleasure of working with Arvin on three different pieces now and there aren't enough words to describe how amazing he is!!!! Not only is his work exactly what I wanted, if not better, he is the kindest most genuine person I've met. Arvin has such a soft hand which makes sitting a breeze!! He was able to capture the true essence of my Duke in the memorial peice we worked on together. The owl he did for me looks like its really observing my surroundings and the hippocampus he did for me took second place in the medium black and gray category at the Colorado Springs tattoo convention. He is and will always be the only tattoo artist I will work with! Even when that means flying in from Texas!!! Arvin has pure talent and heart for his craft!!!
Been sitting on this one for a minute, but I'm pretty upset with my experience at Title and with the artist Andrew Flatts (@GoonsIllustrationz on IG). This was an emotional piece for me (a memorial for my cat of 20 years), and I emphasized that in the consultation. $600 later, I walked away with an "original" design from Andrew. You can see the tattoo when I left the studio, it is technically very nice work! That's why this rating isn't lower. He has skills, it just seems he lacks creativity (or decency? Whichever fits.). I found another artist, @tattoo.ania on IG, that you can also see in the screenshots. Turns out, he ripped the design for my cat almost exactly from this artist. Bummer! Especially disappointing as I sent him six reference photos of my cat, and additional pictures of her tail when he requested. Intriguing that the design still ended up not really looking like her. I wasn't going for hyperrealism, I told Andrew that I liked his work and was open to artistic interpretation. I thought an artist might appreciate the opportunity of some creative license, not take advantage of it. Anyways, I kept scrolling, and I see one of his other flash designs is "very heavily influenced" from this artist, too (by that I mean the composition is, again, exactly the same). I get that there is no such thing as "completely original" art, inspiration is pulled from all over, but the exact composition of two tattoos pulled from the SAME artist is pretty wack. I also get that studios these days charge a high fee for booth rent. I'm not sure what that culture looks like at Title, but this experience tells me that Andrew was in a rush to get some cash -- maybe to pay rent, maybe for whatever else -- and I was used in the process. Pretty gross. Anyways, back to my tattoo specifically. Again, technically speaking, this tattoo is well done. Unfortunately it lightened up a lot after a few weeks (second picture of my tattoo is 3 months healed), but Andrew did offer free touch ups. I didn't take him up on this because of everything I've said so far. My continued complaint is that while I appreciate that free service, the initial tattoo took 3 hours under the needle. It's about 4in tall and 3in wide, but you can see the amount of negative space. Curious? Yeah, I thought so too. For an artist that charges hourly and takes "inspiration" to a lazy extreme, I can't help but jump to some conclusions. If the writing of this review isn't clear enough, I'm pretty charged up about this. Dismiss it as emotional if you'd like; I've had people tell me that I should've vetted the art more and that it's my fault. Sure! That is one truth of the matter. The larger truth that I see is that I misplaced my trust in an artist that doesn't respect the importance of a tattoo, and there's a culture shift happening in the tattoo industry that's treating clients as cash cows, and I fell prey to that. I plan to get this piece removed or reworked by an artist with integrity. Thanks for reading.
