Yellow House Tattoo Collective

I’ve had one piece done at this shop, and it will definitely be where I go to get the next one done. I love the general style and use of color in their work. Now… I’m not affiliated with this shop in any way, but the real reason that I’m leaving a review is that I was driven to comment by the single ‘one star’ review that they’ve received. I just want to emphasize to the reviewer that sometimes the traits that make a person an especially talented artist, someone who not only sees the elements of our world differently than most, who sees the beauty in the ugly and strange, but who can also then have the technical skill to translate those thoughts and feelings into images that are permanent- and therefore very high stakes, in terms of customer satisfaction…. that takes a certain special type of person. And at the risk of generalizing, someone who is far down an alternative path that the average Jane never wanted or needed to consider. Maybe they always wanted to be a tattoo artist and vigorously pursued that goal, but maybe they weren’t given the opportunities for simple success, or their brain chemistry wouldn’t let them succeed in a traditional career path, or that’s just not who they are and that’s not what they wanted. My point is, your artist might have other stuff going on, and this isn’t a Burger King, and if you were crying with your sibling because you had been planning on getting a tattoo for years and now you found out that it just isn’t gonna work out tonight… and you left me some texts or voicemails being that intense, I’d probably have a hard time replying to you in the moment, and an even harder time as more time passed by, and I might quickly decide that it’s less stressful to just write the whole thing off. As much as that sucks. Sorry for the novel. I have a feeling this won’t be posted, but I hope it does. 😊🤷‍♂️

I am so sad with what would have been my fourth tattoo from Raven. My brother and I were scheduled to get tattooed yesterday at 5. Raven emailed me early in the afternoon and said she was out of town and gave me the option to push our appointment back until 6 that evening or reschedule. Why would you schedule an appointment with me if you knew you’d be out of town? I said we could make 6 work. I hit traffic on my drive down and emailed her and said we would be there around 6:15 and received no response. When we arrived at 6:10, the shop was dark inside and locked. I emailed Raven and said we were outside. We waited in the car for 45 minutes before leaving. My brother and I were both nearly in tears because we had been planning to get this tattoo for a couple years now. Raven totally ghosted me. It has been over 24 hours and I still haven’t heard from her. This isn’t the first time she has had to change the appointment due to an issue on her end. I accommodated her schedule changes. I am truly so bummed out and feel so let down by what happened yesterday. Like I said, this would have been my fourth tattoo from Raven. I am absolutely not coming back.

Last week i got my second custom piece done at yellow house by Stew and am already looking forward to #3 !! The shop itself is refreshingly colorful and well decorated- they have found the perfect balance of welcoming/kitschy and clean/minimalist. Stew was so helpful in figuring out the size/placement of the tattoo so it fit in seamlessly with my existing pieces and made me feel informed and comfortable throughout the entire process. All of the artists here are so incredibly creative, talented and kind- i’m grateful a place like this exists in my community !
