I saw Toni B for a tattoo that included white ink. During our consultation, she explained that white ink can fade over time and may blend more with skin tone, but that she offers one free touch-up if that happens. I appreciated that transparency and felt confident moving forward. Throughout the healing process, I stayed in communication with her because my tattoo took longer to heal and experienced some inflammation. She explained that white ink can take longer to heal, which I understood and trusted based on her expertise. After about a year, once the tattoo was fully healed and no longer causing irritation, I reached out to request the touch-up, as most of the white accents had faded — exactly as we had discussed in our initial consultation. She responded that she didn’t feel it needed a touch-up yet and mentioned not wanting to create additional scar tissue. From my perspective, there is no visible damage or scar tissue — it looks like a normal, well-healed tattoo that simply needs the white refreshed. I waited a few months and followed up again, but received no response. I reached out multiple times over several months before finally getting a reply. At that point, I was told that tattoo touch ups are “at the discretion of the artist” and that because I had a “difficult time” healing, she wasn’t comfortable tattooing me again due to concern about causing more damage. This was confusing to me, as there is no visible damage or scarring — only faded white ink, which we discussed from the beginning as a possibility. She based her assessment on a photo rather than seeing it in person and still felt a touch-up was unnecessary. Some of the dots are completely gone and the only way to tell is to actually see them in person. I was advised I could contact the shop for a second opinion. I followed all aftercare instructions and maintained communication throughout the healing process. I simply wanted the complimentary touch-up that was discussed at the start. While I respect that artists have discretion, I was disappointed by the lack of responsiveness and the refusal to honor what was initially presented as part of the service.
