Reviews
I've been patronizing Uni K wax in Brooklyn Heights for longer than I can remember, and have had different Wax Technicians.. They were all very good at waxing, and communicating. Today I had Sulu, for the 2nd time, and she is truly amazing, with a great personality. She made me feel very comfortable, which is so important during a waxing. The place continues to be very clean and bright. I particularly like the location. It's close to everything you can want plus the LIRR. I have no reason to go elsewhere.
After almost a year of coming here, this place continues to be my favorite! Everything is clean, the music is great and the service is wonderful. Sulu has been my go-to since day 1! She’s good at what she does and so very funny! It’s so important to feel comfortable and safe when you're getting a waxing - Sulu creates that space. Definitely recommend her if you are new to waxing or just starting out especially - she’ll put you at ease!
I had a supremely underwhelming experience here as compared to other waxing salons, and I'd strongly advise taking this review into account if you're someone who appreciates a salon that is much more friendly, lively, and warm. Someone in a previous review mentioned the service was very transactional, and it really is the perfect way to describe it. The staff are strangely devoid of warmth and lack any real customer-forward interaction. It was mine and my partner's first time trying this place because we live nearby, and the overall experience was so lackluster compared to places I've gone before, which have all been warm and all make sure you're not only heard in terms of needs but as comfortable as possible. I had called earlier in the day to very nicely confirm a discount code and noticed the person over the phone seemed immediately disinterested, almost as if she was already expecting dissatisfaction or something, which was off-putting already, and then when we actually walked in, it just confirmed my worries: there was no real greeting, just a monotone, bored receptionist who checked us in so vapidly it was like we were about to enter a dive bar. I was almost tense because why did it feel as though she was acting like we were wasting her precious time just being there? When I was brought to the back by my waxer, there was no intro about herself or the studio despite being a first-time customer, nor did she ask me about the service I needed or even instruct me to undress, she kind of just... put me in a room, then left me there, and it was such a strange way to be "welcomed" into a new place that supposedly wants consistent business from new clients. What if it was my first time being waxed ever, y'know? I just found that so, so weird and not a way I'd ever instruct staff to interact with people if I owned any kind of business, much less one that specifically handles people's bodies and intimate areas. Heck, I've had better service in an urgent care center; it's kind of amazing. The facility itself is okay, but you can tell they don't really take pride in caring for the place; it doesn't look like the sparkly brand new photos on their Google Maps listing. Lots of deep scratches in the walls, damage to furniture, and scuff marks they seemingly don't seem to care about at all. The music was not geared towards a salon vibe at all either, which was even more off-putting. It's really a scene that matches the service, I'll say. To top all this off, I had a lot of leftover hair, and I know some of it didn't come off due to it being too short, which is obviously fine, but some of it was definitely long enough to come off and there wasn't too much effort to remove it. All in all, this place might be okay in an emergency or for convenience because getting a last-minute appointment is easy. But I would absolutely not recommend for those who are either waxing for the first time or really need the service to be forthcoming and welcoming. It's really quite sad because I can see the potential. Maybe it's management thing, I don't know. But I'm not anticipating being back very much at all despite being a 5 minute walk away, which says a lot. I see a lot of similar reviews as mine, and they just don't seem to care, which is so tragic when you consider how much people pay for a single Brazilian here. Listening to your customers is truly a business bare minimum — how can you not even meet them halfway there? Yikes.
