Eyebrow piercing: the surface piercing with a rejection problem
Eyebrow piercings sit through the thin flap of skin along the brow ridge. They're technically surface piercings, which means they have a meaningfully higher rejection rate than most other facial piercings.
The rejection problem
Surface piercings live in a thin layer of skin without much depth to anchor in. Your body slowly treats the jewelry as a foreign object and pushes it toward the surface. Eventually it grows out, leaving a small linear scar. Estimated rejection rate: 30–40% over five years, even with great care.
Reducing the odds
Use a curved barbell, not a hoop — hoops put rotational pressure on the channel. Use implant-grade titanium. Don't sleep face down. Don't catch the jewelry on hats or hair.
Spotting migration
The skin above the jewelry thins, the bar starts looking more visible through the skin, or the entry/exit holes drift apart. If you see migration, remove the piercing — leaving it in once it's migrating creates a longer scar.
FAQ
Vertical or horizontal eyebrow?
Vertical is the classic. Horizontal eyebrows reject even faster and are usually not recommended.
Can I get my eyebrows waxed with a piercing?
Yes, but only after it's healed. The aesthetician will work around the jewelry.
