so i've had my first, second, and currently working on a third tattoo with jhonn. i was super nervous about getting a tattoo but with the consultation and the hour or two jhonn spent talking me through the entire process on the actual appointment date, i had such a great time! his office in general is gorgeous and very clean, but the vibes are also amazing. he works through the design until you're completely satisfied and gives you such thorough aftercare instructions, there's no way you can mess this up. he's also extremely knowledgeable about art, art history, and tattooing (obviously) it made super comfortable knowing he's basically a master at his craft. my tattoos have turned out EXACTLY the way i've wanted and i can only thank jhonn for this. his wife, stef, is also extremely efficient with scheduling but also so kind. i've had nothing but the best experiences here, and am so grateful i found them! truthfully a power couple and some of the kindest and most genuine souls you'll meet!

For those of us who have had tattoos, we know the typical experience. Or for anyone who has not had a tattoo, has observed it walking by a “typical” tattoo experience. It is pretty much the same. Many artists doing their amazing craft. simultaneously.  With many people at the same time, in the same space. Crafting their art on others’ bodies. People walking in and out. Loud music playing. I never knew there was another way. For me, art on my body is a special thing and only do it when it calls to me. I had the great happenstance of bumping into someone who recommended Jhonnathan of Shades of Blak. I had felt the need to be inked again. Something was calling me. So I reached out to Jhnonnthan. And from that moment on, WAS THE BEST INKING EXPERIENCE I HAD EVER HAD. Jhonnathan asked to do a video consult with me to discuss what I had in mind. But not just to understand my idea for new ink. But to get to know me. And explain the INCREDIBLE and completely UNIQUE tattoo experience he offers. He, and his wife, have of a Med Spa they created after Covid shuttered so many tattoo locations. He has worked with doctors and nurses to UNDERSTAND skin. And what it means to biologically get tattooed in the process. And after. When I arrived at Shades of Blak, there was no loud music, no other artists, no other people, no wanderers off the street. Just me. And Jhonnathan Just a quiet, sterile, peaceful environment. We had had multiple conversations and text messages getting to know what my vision was for my tattoo and the art he elaborated on it was EXACTLY what I had envisioned. He explained the before, the during and after of the tattoo process, which really had never been told properly before to me. And never in the way he did. He told me how my own plasma would help heal me. I never scabbed like he said I wouldn’t. But I had before. And so the inking began. And through it all it was not a “job” for him. I was his canvas. He was my artist. A real artist treasures their canvas. And for any recipient of art, treasures the artist as well. We shared stories about our lives and connected in that one hour and seven minutes of ink time. He heard my story of where this tattoo’s origin came from, My belief in INFINITE LOVE And he shared his own life with me. This review may seem lengthy. And that is because it is meant to be, if you listened and got this far. My tattoo is INFINITE LOVE. It’s what I believe in. What I wanted inked on my body. And what Jhonnathan gave me, more than I ever thought my tattoo would be. I will never go anywhere else and when the universe sends me what my next tattoo will be, I will return to Jhonnathan and Shades of Blak.

Johnnathan absolutely crushed my tattoo. I came in with a realism skull concept, and he not only executed it perfectly but actually improved the design beyond what I imagined. His attention to detail, shading, and realism are next level. The whole experience was professional, clean, and comfortable from start to finish. You can tell he really cares about his craft and his clients. Highly recommend him if you want quality work that stands out. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
